UIN Jakarta and Global Peace Foundation Egypt Explore Strategic Partnership for World Peace
JAKARTA — Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta continues to reinforce its commitment to expanding its global network and strengthening the role of international academic diplomacy. This commitment was demonstrated through the official reception of a delegation from the Global Peace Foundation Egypt, held in the Main Meeting Room of the Rectorate Building at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
The visit marks a strategic step toward deepening academic and diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Egypt, particularly in promoting world peace, strengthening religious moderation, and fostering cross-cultural dialogue. Furthermore, the meeting aimed to build international communication and networking in education and research to drive academic collaboration in addressing various global challenges.
The delegation from the Global Peace Foundation Egypt was led directly by Dr. Magdy Tantawy, Senior Editor at Al-Gomhuria Newspaper Egypt and Director-General of the Global Peace Foundation, alongside board members including Reda Abdussalam.
They were received by UIN Jakarta's leadership team, including Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., Vice Rector for Cooperation Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., Prof. Dr. Amany Lubis, M.A., as well as deans, professors, and members of the academic community.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Ali Munhanif expressed deep appreciation for the visit from the delegation of the Land of the Prophets. He emphasized that UIN Jakarta carries a moral and academic responsibility to make tangible contributions toward world peace through dialogue, research, and international cooperation. He further elaborated that Indonesia and Egypt share long-standing historical ties in Islamic education; thus, the partnership between the two nations must continue to be nurtured to address global dynamics, particularly across security, education, politics, and Muslim community life.
In response to the warm welcome, Dr. Magdy Tantawy expressed his gratitude and respect to UIN Jakarta. He noted that Indonesia exemplifies a nation that has successfully fostered values of tolerance, morality, and harmonious religious life. These characteristics make Indonesia a highly strategic partner in advancing the peace movement globally.
During the warm and productive discussion forum, Reda Abdussalam outlined the Global Peace Foundation's strategic plan to establish an operational center in Jakarta and expand branches across various provinces in Indonesia. Institutional legalization processes are currently underway to enable the foundation to operate officially in the country soon.
The meeting resulted in an initial consensus on the importance of making religious moderation a primary foundation for achieving world peace. Both parties also explored various concrete cooperation opportunities, including joint research programs, educational diplomacy, student and faculty exchanges, and international conferences.
As a follow-up, both institutions committed to swiftly formulating a joint work plan to be formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a legal framework for collaboration. This step is expected to further solidify UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta’s position as a state Islamic higher education institution actively contributing to educational diplomacy and world peace.
