UIN Jakarta Explores Collaboration with Türkiye, Opening Opportunities for Student Exchanges and Dual Degree Programs

JAKARTA — Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta continues to expand its international partnership network, including broadening global exchange access for its students. This latest strategic initiative was marked by exploring a comprehensive partnership with the Republic of Türkiye across education, culture, and research.

The collaboration plans were discussed during an official audience between the UIN Jakarta delegation and the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Indonesia, Prof. Talip Küçükcan, held at the Turkish Embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday (April 28, 2026). The visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between UIN Jakarta and several leading universities in Türkiye.

The UIN delegation was led by the Head of the Center for International Cooperation, Prof. Arif Zamhari, accompanied by Ratna Faeruz, Nurbaini Futuhat Wulansari, and Zulfiana Said.

Prof. Arif Zamhari stated that the meeting represents an important step toward reinforcing UIN Jakarta’s position as a globally reputable university through strategic, high-impact international collaboration.

"UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is committed to expanding international partnerships that deliver tangible impacts on academic development, research, and capacity building for our academic community. Türkiye is a strategic partner with a rich scholarly tradition that is highly relevant to the advancement of Islamic studies and modern science," said Prof. Arif Zamhari.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Talip Küçükcan, welcomed UIN Jakarta's initiative and expressed strong open support for establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as the legal framework for joint collaboration.

Ambassador Küçükcan emphasized that partnership models arising from the actual needs of faculties and academic units tend to be more effective and sustainable.

"We view a bottom-up approach as more productive because it stems from real demands at the academic level. Consequently, cooperative programs can run actively and deliver long-term benefits," expressed Prof. Dr. Talip Küçükcan.

In addition to discussing the MoU, the meeting highlighted the importance of reactivating previous institutional ties, such as those with Ankara University. Both parties agreed that follow-up communications and program implementation should proceed swiftly to translate historical ties into concrete results.

Furthermore, discussions opened prospects for developing dual degree programs between UIN Jakarta and top Turkish universities. This framework aims to elevate the quality of UIN Jakarta graduates through curriculum alignment, cross-border academic exposure, and enhanced global competence. (fianaS/IO)
